Bernie Hete, PhD
Vice President of Engineering
Dr. Hete is co-inventor of patents licensed by STARR Life Sciences™ from Respironics and co-inventor of 8 other medical device patents. While working on an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron, he designed a total heart prototype of the Cleveland Clinic pneumatic ventricle assist device. He also has a PhD in Bioengineering from Penn State University, where he studied ultrasound tissue characterization, work that provided a good grounding in programming and frequency and signal analysis, key technical elements to STARR Life Sciences™ current and future product offerings. Dr. Hete was previously employed at Respironics, where he acted as lead systems architect and product development leader for Respironics BiPAP Vision™ and Cadence™ Mechanical Ventilators.
His work also included due diligence evaluation of a diverse range of technologies, which includes pressure and flow generation, pH measurement, particle aerosolization and nanosensors, to name a few. He has significant experience in hands-on experimental physiology and animal surgery, as well as extensive studied knowledge of biomaterials and human and animal physiology. He has over 20 scientific and medical journal articles and abstracts.
